1. Typhoon Information

Please be well prepared for the typhoon by checking the latest typhoon information. A wealth of typhoon information exists in Japan at Typhoon News Weblog, where visitors are advised to check official information from the Japan Meteorological Agency. Typhoon information from other countries than Japan is also summarized in Typhoon Information (JMA and JTWC)

2. Best Track Data

Typhoons, or hurricanes, are one of the most significant meteorological phenomena on the earth, so meteorological agencies worldwide have been compiling a record in every few hours on the geographical location, central prssure, and maximum wind of the typhoon. This record is called the "best track," and there are a few WWW sites where best track data are available.

RSMC Tokyo - Typhoon Center RSMC Tokyo Typhoon Center, Japan Meteorological Agency. Best track datasets for the Western North Pacific are archived in Analysis Archive.

10. Information Needs for Tropical Storms

Site (s) below describe user's information needs for typhoon information.

"Tropical Storm" searches and "Hurricane" searches and "Cyclone" searches and "Typhoon" searches, as provided by Google Trends. Note that in Region 3 Americas, this Google Trends tool appears to be compromised: "Worldwide" searches are always identical to "US" searches from some locations. Google Trends, however inadequate, is all that is working in North America. Trends can be cosmetically customized for any country or territory on Earth using intreface buttons. Go Worldwide, or pick a country. Change the trending word (s). Compare what's popular. Note that the Interest over time graph shows percent of browser sessions using a search term. For example, researching the term "Typhoon", we find that on November 23 2013, as Super Typhoon Haiyan flattened the City of Tacloban and pulverized dozens of other cities in the Region, the search term "Typhoon" (worldwide or in the US, we have no idea) appeared in 100% of all browser sessions using Google. Since all Apple and Microsoft system searches are based on Google (at least in Region 3), that 100% could indicate that bilions of people worldwide showed interest in Super Typhoon Haiyan? Or it could indicate that 100% of people in US and Infoseek/Walt Disney (a few million) showed interest? Anyway, lots of people with digital systems in the Americas noticed Haiyan's devastation. That said and with the "weather's" permission, we will naturally try to provide more safety links here, to illustrate public safety interest. Let's move on from Google Trends.
